Youth magazine suspended

first_img April 7, 2021 Find out more to go further News Organisation VietnamAsia – Pacific Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières) today condemned a three-month ban on Sinh Vien Vietnam, a weekly youth magazine whose cover recently featured naked human statuettes and last year had a photo-montage of banknotes with the late President Ho Chi Minh’s head on them floating in a toilet bowl.Calling on culture and information minister Pham Quang Nghi to reverse at once his 15 July suspension of Sinh Vien Vietnam, it said the ban showed how hard it was for the media to deal openly with certain topics in either words or pictures. It also urged the French embassy in Vietnam to lobby the government on behalf of the magazine, which it helps. The culture ministry said the magazine had been suspended under articles 6 and 10 of the press law for printing “offensive” illustrations. Journalists on the magazine, which is published by the Ho Chi Minh Young Communist Association (linked to the ruling Communist Party), were ordered to make public self-criticism. The ban can be extended for a further period by the Party’s culture and ideology commission. The 7 July issue cover showed a photo of two statuettes of a naked man and woman and the 20 May issue last year featured the Ho Chi Minh banknotes. The French news agency Agence France-Presse quoted a government official as saying the magazine had “used sensationalist means to get publicity.” News News News VietnamAsia – Pacific Three more independent reporters arrested in Vietnamcenter_img April 27, 2021 Find out more Vietnam sentences journalist Tran Thi Tuyet Dieu to eight years in prison Help by sharing this information Receive email alerts RSF_en April 22, 2021 Find out more Follow the news on Vietnam RSF laureates support jailed Vietnamese journalist Pham Doan Trang July 17, 2003 – Updated on January 20, 2016 Youth magazine suspendedlast_img read more

Thousands Ride in MS City to Shore, Raising Millions For a Cause

first_imgThousands of bike riders poured into Ocean City Saturday for the annual City to Shore Ride, raising money for the National MS Society. By BILL BARLOW After a cool morning for the start in Cherry Hill, it was unequivocally hot on the other side of the state by Saturday afternoon, where the 75-mile MS City to Shore Ride ended near the Boardwalk in Ocean City.By early afternoon, riders were pouring over the Route 52 Causeway, where one traffic lane had been reserved for bicyclists. At the foot of the bridge, Ocean City Police periodically blocked traffic for the bikes to make a left for the final stretch to the finish line at Fifth Street behind Ocean City High School.Thousands participated in the race, which has become a September tradition in the seaside resort. The race raised more than $5 million for multiple sclerosis, which organizers say affects close to a million Americans, and about 50,000 people in the Tri-state area. Each year the cyclists finish their journey in Ocean City at Fifth Street. The money from the ride goes to research, advocacy and for projects assisting those with MS.Several riders said Saturday was the best weather they’d seen for the ride, without much wind in their faces and clear blue skies.“It was a little chilly this morning. It always is this time of year,” said Rodney Ciafre of Chester County, Pa., relaxing in the shade after the long ride.He said traffic wasn’t bad and he was riding with a good group. Many participate in the ride as part of a team. In his case, it was Gergo’s Gear Shifters.Rodney Ciafre, of Chester County, Pa., said this was a banner year for fundraising.Ciafre said there is not much competition to win the race or to beat a time, although most riders are determined to finish. The competition comes in who can raise the most to help people with MS.“I had a banner year,” he said.Fellow members of his local Rotary Club chipped in. One club member put in a large donation in honor of his wife who died of MS last year. The club also gave a sizable grant, he said.Sitting nearby was John O’Neill of Aston, Pa., whose friend pointed out that he rode with a broken hand. He hurt himself a couple of weeks before the ride, he said, but was not willing to take a year off after people pledged money for his ride.“I felt an obligation to do this,” O’Neill said. This was his 27th ride, he said. For the first time, he jumped in the ocean after the ride, which ends close to the beach. He said the water felt great, at about 70 degrees.O’Neill did make some allowance for his injury. He started at the 45-mile mark in Hammonton, unsure of how his hand would feel after the ride. It was a little sore but pretty good, he said. There are also options for a 25-mile ride or a 100-mile route. Many ride back the 75 miles on Sunday.A traffic officer makes sure the cyclists arrive in Ocean City safely. There were some first-time riders in the crowd as well. This was Coatesville, Pa., resident John Humenick’s first time participating.“I needed to train more,” he said.Humenick was at the rookie booth, picking up a few gifts on display. He said he’s a runner and made a deal with a friend. They would do the ride, often called the MS 150, and then return to Ocean City for the half-marathon next weekend. He said they are often in Ocean City. The ride was tougher than he planned, he said. But he added that he welcomed the reminder.“It’s a good challenge, because when people are sick, they have their own challenges to deal with” Humenick said. Many of the riders have friends or relatives struggling with MS, but others have no direct connection with someone with the disease. A few said they did not know anyone personally who has been diagnosed with MS when they started riding, but over the years they got to know people. This year was the 27th ride for John O’Neill of Aston, Pa.Friends and family were at the finish line to greet many of the riders. Sarah Dillard of north Philadelphia was ready to cheer on her husband, Frederick Tate, who has become a regular participant in the event since his first ride several years ago.He loves to participate in the rides, she said, and rides in other events as well. The website of the National MS Society showed there were 5,786 registered participants, with the most recent posted tally showing $4.28 million raised.According to Jeff Craighead, the City to Shore event is the second largest in the country. On June 13, he and his wife, Pam Craighead, addressed the Ocean City Council to thank the city for its continued participation and to talk about how the money is spent.“Pam is the reason I ride,” he said. She was diagnosed with MS 25 years ago. Pam Craighead said she is not the typical picture of an MS patient. For long distances, she may use her cane, and about once a month she spends two hours getting an infusion. In that time, Pam Craighead said, “I see a spectrum of levels that breaks my heart.’She added of the ride and fundraising effort, “This benefits people so much.”Jeff Craighead said in addition to supporting research on potential treatments, including the infusion his wife receives, the money helps research what diet and exercise helps patients, and can help fund grants for ramps to allow access to homes. Each year the event continues to grow and raise more funds to fight MS and raise awareness.last_img read more

The Key Elements to Learn from Fulham

first_imgAny football team seeks to improve general performance as they prepare for the next season. It requires a positive playing style, excellent football infrastructure, investment in young players to increase their fan base. The year looked promising for Fulham when it won 2018 championship playoffs. However, Fulham had seen things go wrong, especially when their relegation had been on the table. Below are key elements to learn from Fulham’s recent plays if one doesn’t want a replica of their situation in the next season:Rotating defence too muchTo some, it may hardly cross their mind that chemistry is something that any football team should have. However, we can learn this element from Fulham, on how vital it is. During their 33 games this Premier League season, Fulham had 20 different defense line-ups with their three managers as well as goalkeepers. The team regularly switched between back threes, back fours as well as back fives. It nearly took 12 games into the season for the Cottages to name the same backline in consecutive matches. It’s tough to call the same team in the whole season as a result of injuries or teammates needing rest. However, 20 different defensive line ups in 33 games are too much. Looking at this we can say that, a hard time for cohesion as it was also fighting relegation. If you don’t ensure your team has a good rapport, the result will be losing to the opponent team.Fulham’s defensive shortcomings have marred their season so far. [Picture: John Walton/PA Wire]Crazy transfers in the summer One element that football teams should learn from Fulham is avoiding too many transfers in the summer. The team had 12 new footballers some being permanent while others on loan. Seven permanent moves cost the Cottages over 100 million euros which ranged from 30 million euros for Jean Michael Seri and Maxine Le Marchand to 5 million for Fabri. This came back to bite them. They had the pressure from fans and the board to prove the money didn’t go to waste. Jovanovich tried to confirm but there was no cohesion on the pitch. It’s essential that a team has a frugal with their sign-ups during the transfer window to enable them to push for a spot in the Europa league.UnderperformanceRyan Sessegnon was an excellent pick for Fulham’s left position. However, he underperformed in the Premier League. He wasn’t outstanding in the championship. This happened as a result of lack of enough time on the pitch to improve himself. When Ranieri denied him a chance, it led to his underdevelopment at a critical time in his career. Ryan’s average minute went from 76.42 per game to 46.85 per game upon switching of managers. This was not looking pleasant for punters who used sites such as login sbobet to bet on Sessegnon to have an excellent performance. This was a regression that could come back to bite Fulham shortly. Other teams ought to learn from this crucial mistake element. Conclusion These fundamental elements cost Fulham several chances of surpassing their opponents in the premier league season. Punters who used sites such as login sbobet to bet on it weren’t lucky either. However, if other teams learn from Fulham’s mistake, they are sure to emerge victorious in the next season. Three Premiere Pro CC Shortcuts You Shouldn’t Edit Without

first_imgThese simple shortcuts can save you a TON of time in your edit bay. Take the time to integrate them into your editing workflow.Keyboard shortcuts are the key to faster editing. The more you memorize the faster and more fluid an editor you’ll become. The beauty of being able to fully customize the keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CC is that each editor can piece together a set of shortcuts that fit them like a glove. There are some shortcuts that are not mapped to any particular keys in the default keyboard shortcut settings. To find out what a particular keyboard shortcut might be mapped to (and to remap it) simply navigate to Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts. A new window will open with a search box to jump to a particular keyboard shortcut. Click on the drop down menu at the top of the keyboard shortcut’s window to apply a layout preset from either Premiere Pro, Avid or Final Cut Pro 7, if you’re used to a particular set of keystrokes. I love that Adobe has a ‘come-as-you-are’ philosophy to editors and their keyboard shortcuts – a stark contrast to Avid’s limited keyboard mapping abilities.I’ve also previously posted 5 Keyboard Shortcuts I Can’t Edit Without, which I would wager are also worth adding into your toolset!Time Saving Shortcut #1: Add New TitleI was recently working on a project that involved adding a lot of text elements. I soon discovered that by default Premiere does not have a keyboard shortcut for ‘Add New Title Based On Current Title’.  This is a very handy little function that creates a new title, based on the currently open title, maintaining all the formatting, fonts and text that existed in the previous title. By default a new title in Premiere Pro is mapped to CMD+T. I have my new title mapped to CTRL+T, so I mapped new title based on current title to CTRL+SHIFT+T. For memories sake, I would suggest mapping it to something related to that T keyboard shortcut. Just remember: T for Title.Time Saving Shortcut #2: Toggle TracksAs a Final Cut Pro 7 editor I was used to pasted items appearing on the same tracks as the ones from which they were copied. But because of the way in which copy and pasting works within Premiere Pro CC, in which the activated tracks are far more important to getting things in the right place, mapping some shortcuts to toggling tracks on and off becomes more important. In this case I have mapped Toggle Video Track 1, 2 and 3 to the simple keyboard shortcuts of the 1, 2 and 3 keys. For the audio tracks I have mapped these to ALT+1, ALT+2 etc.  You can find these under the Toggle command in the keyboard shortcut’s search box.Time Saving Shortcut #3: Select Next ClipWhen you are colour grading within Premiere Pro, or adding an other effects to a lot of clips for that matter, it can be very time consuming to have to keep moving the mouse backwards and forwards between selecting a clip with the mouse in the timeline panel (to see it’s parameter settings in the effects panel) and moving back to the effects panel to change a particular parameter. Helpfully (and this time by default) Premiere Pro CC does have a keyboard shortcut for selecting the next and previous clip in the timeline which is CMD+DOWN ARROW and CMD+UP ARROW.You’ll also need to use SHIFT+3 and SHIFT+5 to switch between activating the timeline and the effects panels. The most useful implementation of this shortcut is when you’re checking through a final grade to make sure each clip has the settings it should, and you want to blast through the timeline, hammering on CMD+DOWN ARROW.Hit the comments section with your favorite time saving shortcuts and share some editing wisdom with the rest of us!last_img read more

Goa human rights body directs govt. to ensure optimum care for HIV patients

first_imgThe Goa State Human Rights Commission(GSHRC) on Monday directed the State government to ensure optimum care and facilities for people living with HIV, following a complaint filed by Peter F. Borges, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Human Touch Foundation(HTF).The GSHRC has asked the Chief Secretary to fix responsibility in this regard. GSHRC in its inquiry report said that there were no full-fledged facilities in the State to provide treatment for people living with HIV. “There are no viral load testing facilities in the State of Goa for studies in HIV or any other viruses. Presently, the samples are referred to J J Hospital, Mumbai for viral load testing. The State should make efforts to provide this essential facility to all the individuals who are in need of the same,” said the order, based on its inquiry report.Mr. Borges had earlier argued that the goal of the Antiretroviral therapy (ART) in force is viral suppression and routine viral load facility is of utmost importance to all those accessing treatments in the State.Mr. Borges had also said the current treatment strategy, executed through State-run Goa Medical College and Link ART centres at Mapusa, Margao, Chicalim and Ponda are ineffective and not-coordinated in a professional manner.“There is a failure in retainment of the patient on ART, leading to lost cases, loss/death of patients in follow up, patients reporting to Goa Medical College with an advanced staged of treatment failure, with very less CD4 counts. During this, it is required that results of any viral load investigations are available within 2-3 days, hence the complainant prayed for viral load testing in the State itself, he said.last_img read more

Kobe Bryant to Take Practice to Next Level

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant says he received the “green light” to workout harder in practice, but he still hasn’t set a return date as he recovers from the Achilles tendon injury he suffered last April.“I just keep it all open right now,” Bryant said Wednesday. “I don’t know why you guys are so hell-bent on timelines. It’s like the most ridiculous thing to me. It’s entertaining. When I’m ready, I’m ready.”Bryant is currently working on developing explosive strength and power, and targeting exercises to build up his Achilles tendon.“I do a lot of calf raises during the day, just trying to get it as strong as possible and constantly pushing the flexibility of it, the mobility,” said Bryant.Bryant said after his Achilles tendon is fully healed, he’s going to need three weeks of hard conditioning to get back to his playing weight.“I need to get my fat ass in shape,” Bryant said. “Six months of eating whatever the hell I wanted to eat and not running has caught up to me a little bit. So, I got to get in shape.” read more
